Teaching the Boys to think of others..success!

While talking to the boys tonight about giving to others and what that can really look like in terms that they can relate to and understand, I was discussing how when someone is sick we can make soup for them or if someone doesn't have any food, we can buy food for them. Then the first thing our of Jonah's mouth was "and if they don't have a voice, we can make them cake with red icing!"  After a little giggle and hug from this mommy, he went on to explain that his teachers voice is "really weird right now mom" and that she may be getting a "sick voice". So, to wrap this story up, the boys bake her a cake..each! They had made these simple cakes with their mams before and they love using the icing in the bottle. Its fun and easy clean up!

I put the ingredients on the table, they mixed, measured, stirred, poured, and I baked. Then they added their favorite red "squirty" icing! Whah Lah! We plan to take them to his teacher tomorrow with a little explanation from mommy about how Jonah wanted to "give" to her "sick voice".

The recipe I use is a allergy friendly recipe for Jonah:
1-1/2 cup flour
1/3 cup cocoa powder
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1 cup cold water
2 tsp. vanilla extract
2 tsp. vinegar

Mix together and bake at 350degrees for about 35 minutes. Let cool...then decorate.
